Your PMM Placement Process

Are you an M.Div. seminarian who plans to graduate in 2024? Will you have completed the basic 24 credit hours of your program (including courses MM101 and MM102) by the beginning of the summer term 2023 or fall term 2023? Are you an M.A. or M.T.S. seminarian who wants to do elective PMM? If you answered “yes” to any one of these questions, then begin the PMM placement process starting with the first accordion tab (+).

See information below for questionnaire submission. Your application may be submitted via email using your Wesley email or by bringing a copy to the PM&M office (PMMAssistant@WesleySeminary.edu; suite K-107). *Seminarians will not be placed at their home church unless already employed there.*

To submit your Leadership Fitness Questionnaire:

  • Follow the directions on the form. If you have questions, please contact PM&M.

Discerning a potential placement site… Expand

Teaching settings consists of sites that are organizations, congregations, agencies, hospitals, nonprofits, hospice or senior care facilities, etc.

Seminarians may determine a placement site to propose for their PMM internship by three methods:

  • You might see a site on the Ministry Setting List provided by the PM&M office on the Blackboard course MM-001. To gain access to this list, please contact the PM&M office.
  • Your place of employment might be a ministry setting. Please share the webpages Congregations & Nonprofits and Current Learning Partnerships with them and discuss how you will differentiate your usual work from your PMM internship ministry and mission work.
  • You might discover a site on your own that piques your interest. If this happens, then it is important to share more information about PMM internships, the webpages Congregations & Nonprofits and Current Learning Partnerships are the best resources to do so.

As you contact and acquaint yourself with site(s), you might share your profile (Seminarian Placement Application and, if desired, your resume) with sites of interest so that each might learn more about you and contemplate the possibilities for the internship. Schedule time to meet with the site contact and the two potential learning partners: for congregations, the lay and clergy learning partners and for nonprofits, the site and mentoring learning partners.

Interviewing and discernment:

  1. Take time to learn more about the site and its opportunities for ministry engagements and discuss what you are seeking to learn. You might review the site’s webpage.
  2. Consider the site's schedule, your class schedule, and the PMM internship schedule:
    • Colloquies (your PMM course) meet on Wednesday afternoons (1:30-3:30 p.m.) and evenings (7:15-9:15 p.m.).
    • Share with the site that your learning team—intern, clergy/mentoring partner, and lay/site partner—will need to attend orientation together during the coming summer months. See Upcoming Events for PMM dates.

Once you identify a site that may provide your educational needs and is willing to partner with you, then prepare your placement proposal paperwork. More information on this paperwork may be found through the next accordion (+) tab.

Prepare your PMM placement proposal Due April 1 for summer and May 1 for fall/spring Expand

PMM placement proposals include these documents prepared by the appropriate persons—seminarian or site contact—and submitted to the PM&M office by the deadline for the term (summer or fall/spring) desired:

  1. Your Placement Application due by February 1.
  2. Your Wesley PMM Leadership Fitness Questionnaire due by February 1.
  3. Your email confirmation to the PM&M office:
    • Copy the site contact and both learning partners,
    • Propose the site by name, and
    • State the internship term. [Term Example: “Summer 2023” or “Fall/Spring 2023-2024”.]
  4. The site returns the site application-agreement form found on the webpage Congregations and Nonprofits under the accordion (+) tab based on the site type—congregation or nonprofit. The application-agreement must be complete including both site learning partner profiles.

⇒Tip: It is best to submit paperwork two weeks prior to deadlines.

Please note: Site/Profile Applications are reviewed after receipt; site approval is not guaranteed.

For Summer PMM, the placement proposal paperwork deadline is April 1. For an optimal experience, your PMM site should be the same for both summer terms.
Please Note: There are typically no extensions granted for summer PMM deadlines.

For Fall/Spring PMM, the placement proposal paperwork deadline is May 1.
Please Note: Seminarians requesting a fall/spring deadline extension MUST already be in conversation with the PM&M office prior to May 1. The extended deadline, by prior approval, for submitting a Fall/Spring placement proposal is June 1. Seminarians may not be able to participate in the fall/spring colloquy groups if PMM Placements are not finalized by June 1.

Please note: Placement proposals will be reviewed after receipt; approval is not guaranteed.

*Seminarians will not be placed at their home church unless employed there.*
