Information provided is as outlined by the General Board of Higher Education & Ministry (GBHEM):
- Deacons may receive a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) (or equivalent), or other theological master’s degree. The degree must be earned at a school approved by the University Senate. Studies must include the Basic Graduate Theological Studies courses (detailed below).
- Elders must obtain a Master of Divinity (M.Div.). View the UMC requirements for becoming an elder here.
- Local pastors apply and register for courses thru Wesley's Course of Study. Learn more about the Course of Study Program here.
- UM Certification for students and church professionals in specialized ministry through The United Methodist Church, Wesley Theological Seminary is approved to offer courses in Christian education, youth ministry and evangelism. Courses taken for UM Certification may be applied as electives toward a masters degree at Wesley for students already enrolled in a program.
