Veterans Affairs Benefits

If you are a:

  • Veteran of the United States military,
  • Spouse or dependent of a veteran

You might be eligible for educational funding through these programs:

  • Montgomery G.I. Bill (Chapter 30)
  • Post-9/11 G.I. Bill (Chapter 33)
  • Survivors’ and Dependents’ Education Assistance Bill (Chapter 35)
  • Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP, Chapter 1607) and
  • Other programs sponsored by Veterans Affairs

If you are eligible for these benefits you must:

  1. Visit gibill.va.gov.
  2. Request a VA Certificate of Eligibility.
  3. Contact the Office of the Registrar at (202) 885-8650 or registrar@wesleyseminary.edu to establish a file and verify your enrollment to the VA. 
  4. Wesley will then certify your semester/term enrollments.

Post 9/11 G.I. Bill (Chapter 33) Expand

If you are:

  • Retired or
  • Non-active duty student

Due to the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Improvements Act of 2010, you may be eligible to receive VA benefits for:

  • Tuition
  • Fees
  • Housing
  • Books 

Please visit www.gibill.va.gov for more information about the available benefits. 

  • If you are a Chapter 33 student with 100% eligibility, you may receive up to $18,977.50 per academic year in tuition/fees at private institutions such as Wesley.
  • Tuition and fees are paid directly to Wesley after the registrar certifies your enrollment status each semester or term. 

Housing, books and supplies stipends, when applicable, are paid directly to you.

Yellow Ribbon Program (subset of Chapter 33) Expand

If you are a:

  • Retired and
  • Non-active duty student
  • With 100% eligibility as determined by the VA

You may be eligible to receive 100% coverage of all tuition/fees.

Wesley in concert with the VA makes up any remaining balance in tuition or fees that Chapter 33 funds have not already covered.

Presently there are 40 spaces authorized at Wesley, divided evenly between masters level and D.Min. students.

Active duty military are not eligible for the Yellow Ribbon subsidy toward tuition and fees. 

Montgomery G.I. Bill (Chapter 30) Expand
  • The Montgomery GI Bill is available if you enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • If you are an active duty member, you enroll and pay $100 per month for 12 months.

Then you are entitled to receive a monthly education benefit once you have completed a minimum service obligation.

Apartment Housing, Main Campus, Wesley Downtown $6,210 - $13,680
Off-Campus Housing Estimate   $14,400*
Family Housing, Main Campus   $12,600-$16,650
Meals       $3,200
Books and Supplies Estimate   $1,500
Transportation     $1,000 
Personal/Miscellaneous    $1,000

*Estimate does not include utilities. On-campus housing includes utilities.
