United Methodist Certification

Certificate Requirements Collapse

Professional Certification is available through the GBHEM for lay, licensed, or ordained leaders who have an undergraduate degree and can take graduate level courses.

Specific information on Professional Certification in Specialized Ministry in the United Methodist Church can be found here at the GBHEM website.

To learn about enrolling in the certification process please click here. Once you have enrolled and are ready to take classes at Wesley, please click here to contact a representative in the Office of Admissions.

Non-degree applications should be submitted for the following categories:

  • Academic credit for those not pursuing a degree
  • Pursuing UMC Professional Certification without a degree
  • Audit courses
  • Certificate of Christian Studies

Note: Recommendations are not required for non-degree applications.

1. If transcripts are required, order your official transcripts from all your previous undergraduate and graduate schools. 

  • Send e-transcripts to admissions@wesleyseminary.edu
  • Send paper transcripts to:
            Wesley Theological Seminary
            Office of Admissions
            Attn: Transcripts
            4500 Massachusetts Avenue, NW
            Washington, DC 20016

2. Prepare your resume, which you need to upload in the online application. 

3. Get your credit or debit card ready to pay the $60 application fee. (Some applicants may be eligible for a need-based fee waiver if they have been in communication with an admission representative. Contact your admissions representative before submitting the application.)

4. Create your account to begin your application. Select "non-degree" from the menu list.
