SERVICES ISS CANNOT PROVIDE

International student advisors are very hands-on advisors. We work hard to support our international student population in just about any way we can. However, there are certain areas that we must abstain from advising in as we are neither qualified nor authorized to provide such advice.

From an immigration perspective, international student advisors generally cannot advise students beyond the scope of the federal F-1 regulations. We also cannot provide professional services such as legal or accounting services. Such limitations include--but are not limited to--the following items:

  • ISS cannot advise on permanent residency applications.
  • ISS cannot advise on H1-B, R, or other Change of Status applications outside of the F category.
  • ISS cannot directly advise on, or file, federal or states taxes.
  • ISS cannot intercede in legal disputes or bill negotiations, although we can provide supporting documentation as needed.

In such situations, ISS would direct you to contact a professional (i.e. immigration lawyer, certified public accountant, etc.).
