REFRESH

Refreshing, Resting and Keeping the Soul Aloft
in the Power Center of the World

Mark 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Mark 6:31 “Come with me by yourselves and get some rest.”
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Many people in Washington come to town and stay here to do very important, demanding jobs.  Sleep and rest and relaxation of any kind can be casualties.  There is always more to do, and the competition of ideas and work product are severe.  When you are doing very important work, maybe work that you can do better than anyone else, it is possible, maybe probable, to cut corners on sleep and other forms of refreshment.  Yet, it takes time, participation in regular church services, and being around the good people of Wesley Seminary to trust God and yourself in these potentially sleep-robbing circumstances…and to respect the need for sleep and refreshment.

“A broad margin of leisure is as beautiful in a person’s life as it is in a book,” said Henry David Thoreau.

“You will soon break the bow if you keep it always stretched,” said Phaedrus.

“The principal thing in the world is to keep the soul aloft,” said Flaubert.
