Rebuild
Luke 9:18-22

This Lenten Season of 2021 is truly a time of rebuilding.  In one way or another, many aspects of our lives are, or soon will be, engaged in a rebuilding process.  We might be rebuilding our health after experiencing the devastation of COVID-19.  It might be rebuilding our routines after staying in and staying home for the past year. It might be rebuilding our profession after being laid off from a beloved place of employment.  It might be rebuilding our communities, nation, or world after upheaval, unrest, challenge, and transition.  Rebuilding leads us to a new normal, which may be unfamiliar, uncertain, and even a little scary.  But, rebuilding and a new normal also bring new opportunities, new relationships, and new beginnings that we might not have otherwise experienced.  Rebuilding also often leads to something stronger and more resilient than what had been before.

As followers of Jesus Christ, you and I cling to the hope that whatever we face, whatever we need to rebuild, or whatever our new normal might look like, we do not face it alone.  As we rebuild, we are joined by the One who has gone before and brings newness and life and light out of hopelessness, destruction, death and despair.  The empty tomb of the third day attests to God’s ultimate project of rebuilding and restoration.  The risen One who awaits us at the end of our Lenten journey is with us in all of our rebuilding efforts and promises new life: Rebuilt, Restored, and Resurrected!

Amen
