Matthew Wilke is a third year Masters of Divinity student and feels lucky to participate in the Urban Fellows program. Matt received his bachelors in Sociology from North Central College, in Naperville Illinois, and felt his calling to ministry while helping with campus ministries. He has studied abroad in Jerusalem at the Hebrew University to prepare for his theological studies at Wesley. After growing up in Derby, Kansas he attended a United Methodist church where his father was the Pastor. He grew up helping with church music and playing guitar, but now gets to step into pastoral ministry. Currently he is an associate minister at Asbury UMC, downtown DC, where he is helping to launch an outreach ministry called The Bridge. This ministry is a worship service geared for the unchurched, and employs many church-planting techniques for the rapidly changing downtown context. He hopes this experience will help him learn the necessary skills to start a new church in the future and expand the Kingdom of Jesus in urban settings.
