The Board of Governors of Wesley Theological Seminary Appoints The Reverend Dr. Kyunglim Shin Lee as Bishop Sundo Kim Chair in World Christianity

The Board of Governors of Wesley Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of The Reverend Dr. Kyunglim Shin Lee as the new occupant of the Bishop Sundo Kim Chair in World Christianity. Dr. Shin-Lee is a graduate of the Methodist Theological University, Garett Theological Seminary and Wesley Theological Seminary and a distinguished alumni of the historic Ewha School in Seoul, Korea. Under her leadership as the Vice President of Global Initiatives at Wesley DC, she has spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through in initiatives in theological education in Africa, Asia, Central and South America. She has become one of this generations most well-known Methodists globally working with missionaries related to the various denominations represented in the World Methodist Council. Her teaching field is in world missions and spirituality and is a highly sought teacher and preacher.

Dr. Shin-Lee is the second occupant of the Sundo Kim Chair, which was established through the leadership of President Bishop Chung Suk Kim of the Korean Methodist Church while serving as the senior pastor of the Kwanglim Methodist Church. The chair is named for the late Bishop Sundo Kim, who was a graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary. He is well-known for making Kwanglim the largest Methodist church in the world, sending missionaries worldwide, inspiring the founding of the Chair. This is the first chair in an American seminary to be named for a Korean. David McAllister-Wilson, President of Wesley said, “I am very excited about this appointment. I have been present at many occasions around the world to see how Kyunglim become the most recognized missionary theologian in worldwide Methodism today, building networks to strengthen world Christianity.”

Wesley Theological Seminary, located in Washington, DC has become one of the few truly global seminaries, thanks to Vice President Shin-Lee’s leadership. Named for both John and Charles Wesley, the seminary serves many of the Methodist/Wesleyan churches worldwide.
