Dr. Art Thomas, adjunct professor of Spirituality and Church History at Wesley, is leading a Highlights of the Swiss Reformation Tour, May 26 to June 2, 2018. Wesley students, family, and friends wanting to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation are invited to join this tour just for their own enrichment or as an elective, directed study (2 credit hours) on Reformation history involving readings and a paper.  Those wanting credit should contact Dean Bruce Birch for approval. Deposits of $350 are due by February 15, 2018 to reserve a place on the tour. Final payment of $2,799 (land only)  is due March 12, 2018.

Come follow in the footsteps of great Catholic and Protestant reformers such as Erasmus, John Hus, Ulrich Zwingli, John Calvin, John Knox, and Karl Barth with visits to the beautiful Alpine villages, historic cities, cathedrals, monasteries, scenic mountains, picturesque canals, and lakes for which Switzerland is famous.   Participants will visit Zurich, Stein-am-Rhein, Einsiedeln Abbey, Kappel, Lucerne, Basel, Bern, Gruyere, Chateau de Chillon, and Geneva in Switzerland and travel into Germany to Konstanz.  The tour will be especially relevant for Presbyterians, U.C.C.’s, Baptists, and Anabaptists who are seeking their spiritual roots or those from any faith tradition. The Reformed tradition impacted Methodism and John Wesley through Anglicanism and Puritanism and the United Brethren through the Anabaptist roots of  Boehm and the Reformed background of Otterbein.  There will be lectures on the Reformation and videos shown as part of the trip.

Over the past 20 years Art Thomas has organized nine travel journeys for Wesley students.  Please let him know of your interest immediately so he can email you the itinerary brochure .  He can be reached 804 264 6746 (H) or 240 281 1523 (cell) or by email at arthurdthomas333@gmail.com. Or you can down load the brochure with this link  https://reformationtours.com/package/highlights-of-the-swiss-reformation/.  In any case you need to let him know of your interest or if you are signing up for just the trip or the trip and directed study.
