J-Term is Around the Corner!
With all the deadlines and papers right now, it may be hard to think of next year, but J-Term 2020 is just around the corner! Don’t forget to sign up for J-Term classes like BI-429: “Bodies, Books and God” with Dr. Katherine Brown. Her course will look at Scripture and ask the questions:
What did writing mean in the ancient world? What did writing do? What does writing mean for us today?
Dr. Brown suggests that “We tend to read biblical references to writing through the lens of modern print culture, as responses to questions such as date, authorship, or source. Text references intertwining writing and bodies invite a different set of questions, ones pertaining to identity, relationship, and encounter with God. This course expands awareness of biblical depictions of divine encounter through material media, including scroll, book, and human body, in order to re-claim the possibility and expectation for these forms of encounter in current faith communities.”
This J-Term class will be held January 6-10, 2020; 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily.
