On Sept. 12, 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m., Wesley will host the Abd el-Kader Education Project’s public event titled, “Emir Abd el-Kader: Teacher for the World Forum.” This learning event will bring together Christian, Muslim and secular admirers of Emir Abd el-Kader, who was raised in the western reaches of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century. An Arab warrior, diplomat, holy man and scholar, he is considered by some to be “Algeria’s George Washington.” The event coincides with the 210th anniversary of the birth of Abd el-Kader.
