The Faith Community Nurse (FCN) Certificate has a standard curriculum and is based on the American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Scope and Standards for Faith Community Nursing in consultation with the Health Ministries Association, the professional organization for FCNs. The ANA standards for FCNs state that 34 credit hours must be completed in order to become a FCN.
Wesley Seminary's FCN Certificate uses the International Parish Nurse Resource Center’s curriculum as a foundational base for its certificate program. International Parish Nurse Resource Center’s curriculum is one of many used in teaching FCNs. This curriculum is peer reviewed periodically by faculty teaching the FCN course throughout the United States. This provides a standard for knowledge and competency locally, regionally, and nationally.
Potential Certificate Candidates: Licensed, Active Registered Nurses from Greater Washington, DC, Northern VA, Baltimore, MD area.
New Nursing Specialty: Recently, ANA approved a new process for active, licensed registered nurses to obtain a specialty practice certification through portfolio for FCNs beginning in 2014.
Continuing Nurse Education Credits (CNEs): Wesley is partnering with its hospitals to provide CNEs for this certificate.
Teaching Format: Hybrid- combination of in person classroom time and online modules
