R. Kendall Soulen

Director of the Master of Theological Studies Program; Professor of Systematic Theology

Dr. R. Kendall Soulen is Professor of Systematic Theology at Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C.  Widely regarded as one of Christianity’s leading post-supersessionist theologians, he has devoted much of scholarship to showing that Christian faith becomes more authentically Christian as it overcomes its stubborn legacy of anti-Judaism.   He is the author of many influential books and articles, including The God of Israel and Christian Theology, Abraham’s Promise: Judaism and Jewish-Christian Relations, and, most recently, The Divine Name(s) and the Holy Trinity, vol. 1: Distinguishing the Voices.  Dr. Soulen has lectured and taught throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, Germany, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.   He has always accompanied his scholarship with public speaking and church work at the local, regional, and national levels.  An elder in the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church, he was elected delegate to the 2016 General Conference.  Dr. Soulen is married to Allison Rutland Soulen, executive director of Just Neighbors Ministry, an organization that provides immigration legal services to people of low-income.  They are the parents of three daughters and reside in northern Virginia.  Besides being interested in all things theological, Dr. Soulen is an avid banjo player who performs occasionally with the string band “The Old Time Machine.”
