BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION
BI-319-OL Prophets & Prophecy in Israel Online, 2.00 credits, Instructor: Brown, Katherine Elizabeth, 6/1-7/16/21
English texts. Reading the Bible's prophetic texts with particular attention to cross-cultural connections, ancient and modern. Readings reflect current issues such as authority, creation care, intimate partner relations, national identity/security, trauma, and media effects.
CHRISTIAN TEACHING & FORMATION
CF-133-OL Teaching and Learning in Christian Education for a Diverse World Online, 3.00 credits, Instructor: Strukova, Jana, 6/14-7/9/21
The course discusses theological and pedagogical principles of multicultural Christian Education. It explores how to teach and engage Christian faith and Bible with immigrants, black and brown, Asian, or indigenous communities. Special attention will be given to the concept of cultural intelligence and culturally responsive pedagogies as essential tools for Christian educational ministry with diverse groups of learners.
CONGREGATIONAL LIFE & MINISTRY
CM-137-OL Church Finances Online, 1.00 credits, Instructor: Weems, Lovett H., 6/21-6/25/21
This course will include optional Zoom sessions.
Exploration of various types of budgets within a congregation, categories of income and expenses, building budgets, methods of giving, accurate tracking of giving and proper financial administration of funds, examining all from both a theological perspective and from the best practices of financial transparency and accountability.
CM-142-OL Healthy Stewardship in the Local Church Online, 1.00 credits, Instructor: Michel, Ann A. 6/7-6/11/21 This course will include optional Zoom sessions.
Exploration of the Biblical and theological basis for healthy congregational stewardship, emphasizing centrality of healthy stewardship to healthy discipleship and survey of the different components to a well-rounded financial stewardship program.
CM-154-OL Ministry in Rural Context Online, 2.00 credits, Instructor: Lemaster-Smith, Jonathan, 6/20-7/30/21
This course will focus on the distinctive realities of rural communities and explore contextual approaches to discipleship, leadership, pastoral care, and other areas of ministry.
PREACHING & WORSHIP
PW-314-VT To Live, to Pray, the Jesus Way: A Deep Dive Into the Lord's Prayer 2.00 Campbell, Gina Gilland 6/28-7/26/21
There will be required virtual session each Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm
Exploration, as contemporary disciples, of the Scriptural request "Jesus, teach us to pray.' Deepen appreciation of the Prayer's petitions through prayer practice, Biblical and theological reflection, art, dance, music.
RELIGION AND THE ARTS
RA-138-VT Music and Social Justice 2.00 credits, Instructor: Rosen, Carolyn 6:00PM - 8:00PM 6/21-7/30/21. This class will have some required virtual/Zoom sessions in the evenings.
The role of music in causes of peace and justice and the particular works (from hymns to major oratorios) that address themselves to these issues.

Wesley helps prepare students for ministry by developing a tuition rate that is a third of the actual cost of tuition and offers varying financial assistance options.
Non-degree study at Wesley Theological Seminary
This is an option if you are:
- Still discerning which degree program best fits your call to ministry
- Meeting a denominational course requirement for ministry
- You simply want to take a couple of master's level classes to transfer to another program of study.
- You are hoping to audit classes to gain or refresh knowledge
- Finding continuing education units (CEUs) to be beneficial to ongoing ministry
With very few exceptions, almost all master's courses offered at Wesley are open to non-degree students:
- To be admitted as a non-degree student, you must be a graduate of a regionally accredited college and must submit a completed non-degree application form Additionally, you must send an official transcript directly from the undergraduate college or university to the Wesley Office of Admissions. Non-degree students are not eligible for financial assistance or campus housing.
- Non-degree students may apply for entry to the M.Div., M.A., or M.T.S. degree programs by completing the respective full application process. If recommended by the Admissions Committee for entry, you may apply a maximum of nine hours credit from your non-degree student period toward the degree. Some degree applicants may be admitted into the non-degree student status because of an incomplete application for degree status.
Additionally, students admitted to the for-credit Wesley @ Pfeiffer University deacon's education, National Capital Semester for Seminarians, or U.S. Contexts Certificate programs are classified as non-degree students and granted the same privilege to freely take courses from among Wesley's fall and spring semester, or J-Term and summer term offerings.
Finally, the non-degree Certificate in Christian Studies provides focused education for personal theological enrichment. The Certificate in Christian Studies Program has a rolling admissions/registration process.

Continuing Education Units (CEU) :
Many professional church staff and clergy are required to obtain CEUs on an ongoing basis throughout their career. The same courses that are available for audit may also be taken for CEUs. For UMC staff and clergy fulfilling requirements, explore the guidelines for continuing education here.
Please note: Courses taken for CEUs will not earn graduate-level credit and cannot be applied toward a Master's degree at Wesley.

Ordained clergy, diaconal ministers, or full-time lay denominational employees may enroll in regular semester courses and receive Continuing Education Units.

Where Are Classes Held?
- Due to COVID-19 social distancing measures, most classes are held online. View the Fall semester update here.
- Main campus: Wesley classes are held primarily at the main Wesley campus (4500 Massachusetts Avenue, NW).
- Wesley Downtown:We also hold classes at Wesley Downtown (900 Massachusetts Avenue, NW).
- Online: Some classes are held entirely online.
- Hybrid/Blended: Wesley courses are also offered in a blended/hybrid format, which means the class is held both in a classroom and online using Blackboard.
Are There Exams and Papers With Each Course?
If taking the course for credit, there are class requirements, such as assignments and final papers/exams. More information is provided following registration in course materials made available prior to the start of class.
