Wesley is about to launch a 36-hour Masters program. This new program is intended to provide theological grounding for those pursuing new directions for ministry, whether through a call to ordination, lay ministry or other service in the world.

The Master of Arts program, designed to be completed in 36 credit hours, can include foundational theology courses, but will also allow students to self-design their degree plan to prepare for specialized studies such as children, youth and young adult ministry; faith and politics; faith and health; prison ministry; and multicultural ministry. Though perfectly suited to new college graduates answering a call to full-time ministry as a youth director, music director or other non-ordained ministry, the Master of Arts program will also serve those from faith traditions that do not require a Master of Divinity for ordination and for those seeking a theological context for their secular work as political, governmental or business leaders in Washington and beyond. The flexibility of the program will enable students to pursue unique objectives within a common degree program.

For many years, programs at Wesley have taught specific skills and disciplines for ministry alongside the core theological education curriculum. The gifts and skills already acquired by students in their personal ministries, whether through previous work experience, leading youth mission trips or as lay leaders within the church will be enhanced by the supplementary courses chosen to round out the foundational courses. For full-time workers, specializations in disciplines like theology, ethics or faith and politics provide transformation and complementary education within the supportive Wesley community.

For more information on choosing a specialization to suit your ministry context or to recommend a student who may be called to ministry or theological study, contact Chip Aldridge in the Office of Admissions at (202) 885-8659.
