New D.Min Students

Welcome to Wesley’s Doctor of Ministry program! Now that you are admitted to our program, you will need to prepare for your first Intensive Term in either January or May.

Instructional Technology Account

Once you return the Confirmation of Enrollment form to the Admissions Office, an Instructional Technology account will be generated for you and a letter sent with this information. With this username and password you may log onto Wesley Web, Blackboard, and Wesley student email. Official seminary communication is sent to this student email account. Be sure to forward this to your personal email account. The D.Min. Office uses your personal email so please keep us informed of any changes.

Registration

The D.Min. Office sends a mailing twice each year to remind you to register for classes. Registration for January occurs in the preceding September, and in February for the May term. Registration is processed online through WesleyWeb, which is accessed through the My Wesley student portal on our website, www.wesleyseminary.edu/mywesley. Your classes are determined by the D.Min. track to which you were admitted. The easiest way to determine your courses is to download the reading lists for your track, then find the course number and title among the choices on WesleyWeb.

Pre-Class Reading and Assignments

Reading lists are posted on the website by the time the registration period begins on either September 1 or February 1 at www.wesleyseminary.edu/mywesley/dmin/readinglists. Your list may or may not include a pre-class assignment according to the wishes of the professor. Please note that books for each class are also listed on WesleyWeb, but any pre-class assignments will not appear. D.Min. students are expected to read all books (or assigned portions) and articles in their entirety before the first day of class.

Your reading list may also include articles which are posted on Blackboard. Once you register for a course, you will automatically be enrolled in the Blackboard site for that course within 24 hours. If you have problems accessing course content for a class, please submit a Blackboard Support Ticket Request at www.wesleyseminary.edu/blackboardsupport or My Wesley (Blackboard Help).

Blackboard Instructions

Blackboard is an online education forum, made available to Wesley students through American University. Every D.Min. class has a corresponding Blackboard course site. If you have reading assignments on Blackboard they will be specified in your reading list or course syllabus. Your reading list will be posted on the Blackboard site as well as on the Wesley website. Use of particular Blackboard course sites will be determined by the professor of each course.

There are two ways to access Blackboard.
Method 1:
• Go to MyWesley and the Student Login at: http://www.wesleyseminary.edu/mywesley
• Log in and click on the Blackboard icon, second one on the right.
• Click on the course name on the right to enter the course site. Navigate with the buttons on the left.

Method 2, short cut:
• Go directly to Blackboard at: http://www.wesleyseminary.edu/blackboard or https://blackboard.american.edu/ (bookmark this page for convenience)
• Enter your username but add lower case “wts” in front of the first character of your username
• Enter your password and click Login

On Campus Housing

In October or March you may request housing for the next Intensive Term. Wesley offers limited dormitory style housing; single rooms are available only if space allows. For more information see the D.Min. Housing page. For your comfort and safety, bring a small flashlight. For January you may want to bring extra blankets. A desk lamp will be useful in case your dorm room does not have one.

Financial Aid

Please contact our Financial Aid Office if you need information on Stafford Loans.

Your First Day...

While we do not hold a formal orientation session for D.Min. students, plan to attend our welcome session on the first day of class, where we offer a cup of coffee and answer questions. The welcome session is held in Elderdice Hall in the Kresge Academic building at 8:00 a.m. on the first day of each Intensive Term.

More general information is available here. If you have additional questions, please contact the D.Min. Office at dmin@wesleyseminary.edu or 202-885-8670.
