Most courses in Drama at Wesley Theological Seminary are taught by Deryl Davis. Although not every course is offered every semester, courses in Drama listed in the current catalogue include:
RA-181 Literature of Religious Drama
Designed to prepare students to make literary judgments about religious drama, to connect them in an informed way with the tradition of drama in the church, and to make connections between drama and other seminary courses. 2 hours.
RA-182 Chancel Drama
Acting, producing, directing. The use of drama to enrich worship services, expand the program offerings and build community in the local church. 2 hours.
RA-188 Tools for Drama in Ministry
Basic theatre techniques for application in church and ministry settings. Students are exposed to theatre games, improvisational exercises, physical and vocal exercises, and basics of role playing, culminating in the presentation of a scene from a play. (Fall 2006)
RA-186 Drama for Worship and Ministry
Application of dramatic techniques for church worship and ministry-building; writing and performance of brief dramas based upon a biblical text or parable; acting and directing techniques applicable to larger productions for church, seminary, or other settings.
RA-189 Writing for Drama in Worship
Playwriting techniques for short dramas from biblical/theological texts designed for worship.(Spring 2007)
RA-480 Chancel Drama Practicum
Staging and performance of a play. Introduction to theatrical production, including design, promotion, and stage managing for church or ministry settings.
