to deeper conversion and renewal as we refocus our vision of the life and death of Jesus Christ in preparation for the coming of Easter. Traditionally, Christians have abstained from eating certain foods and refrained from engaging in selected activities as a form of self-sacrifice or repentance. In light of some of the deeply troubling situations of our time, abstaining from eating chocolate or refraining from impulsive shopping seems like a very small sacrifice and of little benefit to those who are truly suffering. One of the most precious commodities we could sacrifice this Lent is our time. The most meaningful activity we could use that time for is intercessory prayer. I will conduct a thirty-minute meditation and prayer vigil on Tuesdays from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm and Thursdays from noon to 12:30 pm, in the Chapel (except during Reading Week). All are invited to come for a brief time of reflection upon a word from Scripture and silent mediation and prayer as we especially remember those who suffer as a result of the war in Iraq and the genocide in Darfur.
