New Residence Hall Double Occupancy

The New Residence Hall has a total of 76 beds, including single or double occupancy dormitory rooms with shared suite-style bath. The building is four stories tall and all rooms have windows overlooking either the Plaza or University Ave.

All rooms are furnished and have low-pile carpeting and window blinds. Please note that furniture may not be removed from the unit.

Installed furniture (cannot be rearranged or moved) in the room include the wardrobes, head boards and tack strips. Extra-long twin beds with foot-of-the-bed drawer, night tables with drawer and shelf, and desks with drawers, bookshelf hutch, task light and tack board can all be rearranged. A task chair with wheels is provided. Students frequently like to supplement their dormitory furniture with a *miniature refrigerator. Rooms are equipped with central air in the summer and central heat in the winter. The intake vent for this system cannot be blocked by furniture or other objects.

No nails or adhesives may be used on the walls or doors. Tack strips are ideal for hanging posters or papers, and the Housing office recommends blue putty for clean removal in other areas.

The square footage for a single occupancy dormitory room is approximately sf. The square footage for a double occupancy dormitory room is approximately sf.

*Each floor has a community kitchen with a large refrigerator and separate standing freezer for student use.

Double or Single Straughn Dormitory Rooms

Straughn Dormitory has forty-eight dormitory rooms, most of which have the following floor plan.

Straughn Dormitory offers single or double occupancy dormitory rooms. Please note that the floor plan for these rooms is identical and the only distinction between the two is the number of occupants assigned to a room.  Students assigned to live in a single occupancy dormitory room will have the same furniture as provided in a double occupancy dormitory room, and we are unable to store unwanted furniture.  Please also note that furniture may not be removed from the unit.

Installed furniture (cannot be rearranged or moved) in the room include the wardrobes, chests of drawers, and bookshelves (measuring 44" by 26", containing three shelves), which are located above either student desk but are not depicted in the floor plan below.  Beds, night table, arm chair and desks can all be rearranged. Students frequently like to supplement their dormitory furniture with a miniature refrigerator, and not depicted but included in the room is an air conditioner unit which connects to a portal underneath the window.

The square footage for a dormitory room is approximately 175sf.
