During this limited engagement exhibition, historical Chinese Bibles, Chinese Christian artifacts and museum-quality interpretive panels about the re-emergence and growth of Christianity in China will be on display at the Mount Vernon Square location of Wesley Theological Seminary. The exhibition testifies to the the daily life and spiritual life of Chinese Christians and seeks to deepen friendship and mutual understanding between American and Chinese Christians. More about the exhibition can be found at the exhibition's website.
Washington, D.C. has been selected as one of only four American cities to host a unique exhibit describing the history of the re-emergence and growth of Christianity in China. Wesley Theological Seminary, which has strong relationships with many Christian churches and schools for theological education throughout Asia, will serve as the host organization for the exhibition's visit to Washington, DC.
The National Committee of Three-Self Patriotic Movement of Protestant Churches in China (TSPM) and the China Christian Council (CCC), which are the two primary governing bodies of the Chinese Christian community, organized the exhibition. The Chinese Christian Council is the oversight body for all “registered” Protestant churches in China. They have jurisdiction over 8,000 churches and perhaps 55,000 “meeting points” across the Republic of China. The Council is responsible for the dissemination of Bibles and other educational materials and the training of both lay and clergy leadership. They, and their local councils, also help with issues between churches and the government.
The exhibition will be shown at Wesley @ Mt. Vernon Square, Wesley’s downtown theological center across from the Washington Convention Center at 908 Massachusetts Avenue, NW. The exhibition will open on Wednesday, September 28 and continue through Sunday, October 2, 2011.
Bring your friends, parishioners, and colleagues in ministry to this extraordinary exhibition.
