Answer Your Call in the Nation’s Capital! Visit Wesley Theological Seminary on October 7, 2013!
Wesley Theological Seminary invites you to attend College Day, a great opportunity for current college students to explore and experience our campus, our faculty, our students, and the numerous programs and resources offered by Wesley’s unique location in Washington, D.C.
College Day will begin with an introduction to the three major degree programs currently offered at Wesley; the Master of Arts, the Master of Theological Studies, and the Master of Divinity degrees; followed by a special presentation about our Practice in Ministry and Mission program, a requirement of our Master of Divinity degree which places students in real-life ministry settings and allows them to apply what they have learned in the classroom by engaging with the world.
As a visiting student, you will enjoy a tour of campus that will conclude with a question and answer session with a special panel of Wesley’s distinguished faculty. You will have the opportunity to learn what academic life is really like at Wesley.
You will also have the chance to participate in a student-led chapel service in the emerging style, which celebrates the diverse and ecumenical nature of Wesley’s student body. You will experience the strength of Wesley’s community life and our commitment to live as a “beloved community” as expressed by Josiah Royce and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We will travel together to Chinatown via Metro, Washington, D.C.’s subway system, to enjoy lunch and explore the downtown area. Chinatown is home to Mount Vernon Square, Wesley’s intentional community in the heart of Washington, D.C. Chinatown and the surrounding area accurately reflect the growing divide between the rich and poor in our country, particularly in our urban settings, with homeless shelters standing next to the grandiose Verizon Center arena.
Following lunch, you will visit the Mount Vernon Square community, where current students and residents will describe our unique Urban Fellows and Missional Fellows programs. Wesley’s location in Washington, D.C. allows our student body to actively participate with and engage in the many social justice issues that now face our country.
Your day will conclude by returning to Wesley and participating in a closing activity before your departure.
College Day is a free event, but you must register!
If you are visiting from out of town, overnight on-campus accommodations may be requested and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call Patrick Barrett at 202-885-8659 or email email@example.com to make your arrangements.
