Monica Potter Answers Why Wesley?

Effective leaders must have excellent time management skills. Master of Divinity student the Rev. Monica Potter, age 32, is extremely skilled in the art of time management. She’s a fulltime mother, wife, student, fulltime employee, and special assistant to her pastor. And though she won’t graduate until May 2008, Potter is already living her call to ordained ministry in the Baptist church.  “I am called to preach and teach the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ,” she says. “I pray God will use my gifts and talents so others may come to Christ and answer God’s call in their lives. It is through the people accepting their call that the church will grow to be a vibrant light shining for Christ in the world.”

Potter’s leadership skills go beyond her ability to juggle competing interests. She’s able to cast an inspiring vision and move others to share in this important work. “Hopefully, my ministry through the local church will not be contained in the walls of the church, but spread outside the doors to transform the world through the Holy Spirit,” she says. “Wesley has helped me to better understand this need for transformation. I have grown in my ability to become a leader in the church and in my ability to impact others through the spirit of God since starting Wesley.”

“Wesley has the ability through its students, who often serve in the D.C. area, to affect the various churches and the world,” Potter says. “Wesley has many resources to pull from because of its location and can also serve as a great resource.
