New Mission Fellows Program Launches at Wesley

Feb 02 2012

The Mission Fellows Program provides mentoring, funding, and unique experiences to combine faith and service in Washington, DC, and beyond. Mission Fellows receive a $10,000 stipend for educational and living expenses and a self-designed ministry project. As part of the mentoring support provided by the fellowship, each Fellow has the opportunity to meet with missional church faculty, staff and other advisors to discern how best to allocate the stipend funds.

Mission Fellows will meet regularly in a seminar to read and discuss the latest missional church literature and to reflect on how this applies to their engagement in missional ministry. During the second year of the fellowship, they enjoy exceptional opportunities to grow through service as site liaisons for the foundational Spiritual Formation for Ministry course required by Wesley for first year Master of Divinity students.
Students who are interested in becoming a Mission Fellow in 2012-2013 are encouraged to apply to the Mission Fellows program as part of their admissions process to Wesley. Alumni of volunteer service corps experiences such as Peace Corps, United Methodist US-2, Teach for America, or Presbyterian Young Adult Volunteers are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applications for admission and additional Mission Fellows essays are due by February 15, 2012. Mission Fellows are required to be full-time Master of Divinity or Master of Theological Studies students taking a minimum of 9 credit hours each semester. Applicants must submit an essay of no more than 1500 words addressing the following questions:
  • How have you experienced a call to mission and service?
  • What qualifications or experiences support your calling (include service hours, social justice/mercy ministry experiences, etc)?
  • In what type of ministry setting do you see yourself serving in the future?
Essays may be submitted by email to admissions@wesleyseminary.edu, by fax to attn: Admissions at (202) 885-8585 or by mail to Admissions Office, Wesley Theological Seminary, 4500 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC, 20016.
