November 12, 2013, Washington, D.C. – Today Faith3.org, a website promoting engagement of young people in the church, released its list of Seminaries that Change the World. Wesley Theological Seminary is one of the 17 seminaries and divinity schools listed.
Wesley established the Center for the Missional Church to exponentially grow the seminary’s work preparing people to lead faith communities and non-profit organizations in serving as the hands and feet of Christ. The seminary developed the Missional Fellows, a cadre of students who receive scholarships and intensive missional leadership preparation, to turn churches inside out. These efforts complement the long-established Urban Ministry Program and the National Capital Semester for Seminarians, which equip students to change the church and the world.
Wesley President David McAllister-Wilson says, “We believe God is calling Wesley to change the church by turning the church inside out. We recruit students who are looking to change the world and the church. It is an honor to be recognized for this work by being named as one of the seminaries that change the world.”
Faith3.org was created by the Rev. Wayne Meisel, the founding president of the Bonner Foundation and director of faith and service at the C.F. Foundation in Atlanta, Ga. As a presidential appointee to the Commission on National and Community Service, Meisel served as one of the architects of the AmeriCorps programs and also as a charter board member of Teach for America. He also contributes to the religion section of Huffington Post website. He announced the Seminaries that Change the World list in an article on huffingtonpost.com.
“As young adults seek avenues in higher education to connect their passion to impact the world to a life of meaningful work, I believe that theological education and ministry must to be presented as viable options,” says Meisel.
