The importance of community is an idea emphasized heavily within the classrooms at Wesley, and a vibrant and caring Christian community is spoken of as an institutional ideal by faculty and administration. But how often do ‘talk’ and ‘lectures’ ensure the lessons of the classroom and the ideals of the administration are translated to daily life in the dorms and the apartments at Wesley? One way Wesley has found to help translate talk into action is though its Office of Community Life, and the various events it sponsors throughout the semester in order to help foster community growth.

Crystal Corman came to Wesley and American University as a dual degree student with an interest in studying the role of religious leaders as local peace builders, landing her in Malaysia for a year.

Wesley received a grant of $850,000 from Lilly Endowment Inc. to continue the Lewis Fellows program for an additional five years through the Lewis Center for Church Leadership.  This partnership with the Endowment comes from our mutual recognition that young, high-potential clergy are key leverage points for the future of the church in the United States.

Wesley is about to launch a 36-hour Masters program. This program is intended to provide theological grounding for those pursuing new directions for ministry, whether through a call to ordination, lay ministry or other service in the world.

We are sorry to bring the news that Alan Geyer, Wesley Theological Seminary Professor Emeritus of Political Ethics and Ecumenics, died the afternoon of Monday, November 28th at the age of 80 with his wife Barbara at his side after a long struggle with dementia.
