Sondra Ely Wheeler
Martha Ashby Carr Professor of Christian Ethics
 

Sondra’s focus is on theological bioethics, biblical ethics, virtue ethics and the historical roots of Christian moral theology. She works with the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Human Genome Initiative of the National Institutes of Health on programs relating to social, ethical and religious aspects of genetic technology. Her particular interest is in the interface between questions of biomedical ethics and the central commitments of Jewish and Christian faith. At present she is working on a project funded by the Lilly Endowment on the moral character of parental power and its implications for bioethics.

An ordained United Methodist Pastor, Drema has been serving in various pastoral capacities for the past twenty-five years including congregational pastor, Chapel Elder, hospice chaplain, and teacher. She received certification in thanatology in 2006 with an interest in being a death educator, end of life counselor, and spiritual midwife during the dying process. She is committed to helping persons at end of life confront their dying so that they can die peacefully and unafraid. Drema is adjunct faculty at Wesley and teaches a graduate course on Spirituality and Loss at George Washington University.
 

This fall, the Second Mondays series comes back to Wesley’s main campus at 4500 Massachusetts Ave., N.W. and returns to a breakfast format in Elderdice Hall. Please join us at 7:30 a.m. on the second Monday of each month. Breakfast will be provided and we will adjourn promptly at 9:00 a.m.
