Wesley Theological Seminary, a seminary of the United Methodist Church in Washington, DC invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in New Testament, commencing July 1, 2014. General competence in all areas of New Testament studies is expected with a focus on the Gospels or general epistles preferable. Candidates should demonstrate familiarity with a range of New Testament methodologies, including emerging and global perspectives. Candidates must be proficient in hermeneutics and articulate about the relationship of scripture to the larger theological curriculum. Interest in the New Testament as a resource for communities of faith required. Teaching excellence, commitment to publication and ongoing research, and the ability to interpret the Bible in diverse cultural and theological contexts are essential. Experience in web-enhanced and online teaching and learning is desirable.
Teaching will include general survey and specialized elective courses. Rank is open, but we expect to appoint at the Assistant or Associate level. In collaboration with the Minister of Congregational Family Life and the staff, implements the youth ministry program at Fairlington United Methodist Church. The primary focus of this program is to create a healthy, vibrant, and engaging ministry for young people in middle and high school. To this end, the following Principles of Design are the foundation for our ministry to youth:
1. Relational- that is, we will create opportunities for our youth to be in affirming, positive, healthy relationships with many different individuals in the congregation.
2. Conversational- that is, we will create opportunities for our youth to articulate their faith, their struggles, their experience, and their questions.
3. Experiential- that is, we will create opportunities for our youth to experience their faith in action.
Reporting to the Minister of Congregational Family Life, the Youth Coordinator works collaboratively with and supervises a group of volunteer Youth Counselors, and oversees the design and implementation of a program of worship, service, and learning. The Youth Coordinator will work collegially with other team members. The candidate will contribute significantly to maintaining the Principles of Design.
Professing Member of a United Methodist church; or active in one for at least 3 years
At least five years of experience in a faith-based or comparable setting
Demonstrated ability to model effective leadership behaviors to achieve organizational outcomes and to collaborate with others
Demonstrated strong communication skills
Demonstrated event planning skills, including ability to connect details with larger vision
Effective communication and social media skills –verbal and written
Demonstrated strong organizational skills
Experience in facilitating and leading a group of volunteers

Summary Operate computer or word processing equipment to compile, type, revise, combine, edit, print, and store documents by performing the following duties. Work with staff to create reports from SQL platform database for various needs in the conference. Work as administrative assistant to the Executive Director, Transformational Ministries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. This is a Team position and other duties will be assigned as needed.
•Standard administrative duties such as answering phones, managing mail, e-mails, scanning and faxes, making appointments, ordering meals, office maintenance, etc.
•Creates requested mailings and documents for Executive Directors.
•Performs desktop publishing and word processing of complex materials for the Conference. Enters and updates content, implements correlative changes, designs and formats page layout, creates and modifies multiple master pages, adds extensive hyperlinked cross-references, and applies multiple formats and styles for specific uses..
•Designs, types, revises, and combines material from rough draft through finished product for the following: Annual Conference Materials, Event Brochures/Registration materials, Event Bulletins, Learning Materials, Journal, NewSpirit, Business cards, Shelby System and Email blasts.
•Prepare and distribute press releases written and supplied by the communications office.
•Work with staff to create custom reports from SQL platform database for various needs in the conference– SQL knowledge preferred.
•Designs and creates presentations as needed.
•Proofreads and edits documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format with accuracy. Corrects errors and produces final copy-ready material.
•Sets up complex event structures for registration using various software options, including but not limited to SmartEvent.
•Researches and tests current software and software features to improve accuracy and efficiency of production; evaluates new software to determine suitability for present and future needs.
•Coordinates and performs cross-training for coworkers on software and desktop publishing and develops appropriate documentation
•Participates in the preparation for Annual Conference and attends the event as part of the Administrative Work Team, with primary responsibilities for providing communication and presentation assistance.
