Development Officer, Office of Development

Description: The Development Officer will build and maintain a caseload of 150-200 donors with the capacity and interest to support the annual fund and other seminary endeavors with gifts from $1000-$5000 annually (but with the possibility of working with prospects with higher potential).  Building relationships through prospecting, research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, the Development Officer will be responsible for an assigned fundraising revenue goal annually. The Development Officer will work closely with members of Wesley's development team to engage Wesley friends and alumni in annual giving, campaign giving, and in the consideration of a wide range of planned giving opportunities.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • The Development Officer will have primary responsibility for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors at the Wesley Council giving level ($1,000 and above with a focus on securing new gifts), and cultivating relationships that support Wesley’s annual fund, campaign and planned giving goals.
  • The Development Officer will utilize The Raiser’s Edge donor management software system for contact management, donor segmentation, and operational data management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
The performance of this individual is measured by:
  • $ raised annually
  • # of new donors (to annual fund and to all purposes) annually
  • # of retained and upgraded donors annually
  • # of face to face contacts with prospects annually
  • # of new prospects identified and qualified annually
  • # of Ministry Sundays hosted annually
  • based on goals mutually agreed upon for the benefit of Wesley Theological Seminary.
Qualifications
The preferred candidate has experience in development and a proven track-record of fundraising, preferably in a Christian or higher educational setting.  Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required.  The candidate should be an out-going self-starter who works cooperatively with others in a diverse, fast-paced environment.  The candidate must be capable of handling multiple projects at the same time and be proficient in Microsoft Office.  Experience with Raiser’s Edge is necessary.  The candidate must hold a BS or BA degree as a minimum requirement. The candidate should  demonstrate significant familiarity with The United Methodist Church as well as being acquainted with the polity and beliefs of other denominations. Knowledge of and experience working in an institution of higher education or a church is a plus as is some knowledge of theological education, special events, and public relations.  Donor visitation and regional travel is required.  This position is expected to work some evenings and weekends.

Instructional Technology Support Specialist, Office of Instructional Technology

Position: Instructional Technology Support Specialist Full-time position (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., M-F).  Hours may be flexed for special needs

Salary: Based on skills and experience (expected to be $40,000 - $45,000), excellent benefits are included.

Description:   The Instructional Technology Support Specialist assists with design, update and maintenance of online courses and learning management systems.  Coordinates support and delivery of new or revised online courses.  Applies instructional design principles while maintaining and supporting online courses and materials.

List of Duties: Assists with training and support for learning management systems (Blackboard) and other online learning tools used by faculty.  Provides technical support to faculty and students for online teaching and learning tools.  Supervises and schedules Educational Technology help desk staff. Updates online instructional materials using web editing and other related online course delivery software.  Coordinates and meets strict deadlines with faculty and campus users through ongoing contact via phone, email and in person.  Ensures that all course delivery systems and courses residing on them are properly working through compatibility testing for multiple operating systems, web browsers, and assorted plug-ins.  Provides guidance to faculty for the design and delivery of effective instruction through technology.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications:  At least 1 year of experience supporting development and delivery of online courses through learning management systems.  Familiarity with the Blackboard Learning Management System version 9 or above is required.  Experience with HTML and HTML editors with a basic knowledge of graphic design software and other multimedia applications.  Excellent communication (written and oral), customer service and problem solving skills via phone, email and in person.  Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

Junior High Youth Leader, Alexandria, VA 

Reports to: Director of Student Ministries

Hours and Rate: $15 and hour, 20 hours a week

  • Team with the Director of Student ministries to provide opportunities to all youth (grades 7-12) within Christ Church and beyond, while focusing on the care and leading of the 7-8th graders:
    • Help carry out age appropriate ministries to reach all the youth and young adults in the church.
      • Ensure that the opportunities for spiritual growth and building relationships are safe, fun, active, interactive, memorable, God-honoring, character-building and visitor-friendly.
      • Be willing and able to teach and lead as needed.
    • Communicate the overall vision, goals and strategy of the Student Ministries to the parents and church.
      • Together with the director, partner with parents to help them realize God's dream for their student with the goal to produce youth who are authentic disciples of Christ reaching others for Christ with the purpose of evangelism and discipleship.
      • Serve as the liaison with people, organizations and resources both within and outside the church that relate to students and Student Ministries.
      • Communicate and publicize specialized ministries for the laity within all available creative forms of publicity and marketing.
    • Establish personal and supportive relationships with students.
    • Walk alongside and help provide guidance for students as they question and test the limits and opportunities of growing into adulthood.
    • Organize coverage when absence is required, assist in covering for the Director of Student Ministries as needed.
    • Assist the Director of Student Ministries in the implementation of the vision and goals for the ministry in accordance with those of Christ Church as a whole.
       
  • Administrative Requirements:
  • Assist in communication, data collection, information gathering and sharing needs of the youth program
  • Help plan activities for the youth program as assigned.
     
  • Personal Expectations:
    • Maintain active and open communication with the staff.
    • Report weekly to supervisor and/or designee for staff meetings.
    • Adhere to the Christ Church Staff Statement of Ethics.
       
  • Requisite Qualifications and Skills:
    • A personal experience of conversion and commitment to Jesus Christ as demonstrated through a vibrant and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
    • A desire to lead Christ Church’s students to accept Jesus and live a Christian life, along with an authentic love for, patience with, and good understanding of students.
    • Excellent computer, written and verbal communication skills with those associated with Student Ministries (to include youth, parents, staff and volunteers).
    • Maturity in emotional/spiritual judgment and demeanor in the conduct of duties.
    • Maintenance of the highest Christian standards in personal and professional life.
    • Ministry experience and/or ability to demonstrate effectiveness in student ministry.
    • Compassionate, patient, outgoing and nurturing personality.
    • Organized, ability to practice confidentiality, be self-motivated and a team player.

Time Commitments:

  • Sunday mornings 9:15am-12:45pm for Sunday School
  • Tuesday and Thursdays 2:30-6:15pm for after school time
  • Wednesdays 5-9pm for Bible Study
  • Office hours from 9:30-1:30 on Tuesdays
  • 1 weekend evening a month for a fun outing
  • 1 weekend trip in November
  • 1 week long mission trip in July or August

Other office hours/activities as assigned with a fair amount of flexibility

Youth and Young Adult Minister, Baltimore, MD


John Wesley United Methodist Church in the heart of Baltimore City is currently seeking a part-time Youth and Young Adult Minister, who will oversee our Youth Ministry and our Young Adult Ministry, two separate ministries in the life of our church.
 
Responsible to: Associate Pastor for defining goals and day to day operations. Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee for fulfilling responsibilities defined in the job description, evaluation and communication of concerns related to the performance of the position.
 
Purpose: To develop and oversee activities for youth and young adults that promote spiritual growth and ministry and outreach involvement. To engage our youth and young adults in fulfilling our mission statement to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and the world, through radical hospitality, passionate worship, intentional faith development, risk taking mission and service and extravagant generosity.
