Volunteer Worship Leader (Bethesda, MD)

HCR Manor Care Bethesda, a skilled nursing and rehab facility in Bethesda, Maryland, seeks a volunteer seminarian to conduct bi-weekly devotional services for our facility’s long-term residents and rehab patients. The devotional services will be scheduled to last 30-45 minutes and should include hymn singing, a brief sermon, and communion.

In addition to conducting devotional services, the volunteer will be given the option to provide spiritual support to bedbound patients.

Vision of Peace Church Children’s and Youth Pastor (Gaithersburg, MD)

VOPC is a community called to be disciples of Jesus to celebrate and proclaim God in worship, service and fellowship.
The VOPC seeks a Children’s and Youth Pastor who has the heart to encourage children in their relationship with Jesus Christ.  Currently VOPC has about 60 kids ranging in age from nursery to high school.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

VOPC member. Has assurance of Salvation and was baptized. Accepts and confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Professes and practices a personal relationship with God. Builds up personal and corporate faith through the study of the Word, prayer, service, fellowship and service. Participates in the corporate life of VOPC through generous giving of time, treasure and talents.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Children’s and Youth Pastor is a full-time staff member of VOPC, and accepts mutual accountability through oversight and regular coordination with the VOPC pastor, VOPC Staff Parish Relations Committee, and members of the VOPC community.
  • Children’s and Youth Pastor is under the direct supervision of the VOPC pastor.
  • Candidate attends all the required planning and staff meetings.
  • Recruits and trains (among VOPC members) volunteers for teaching Sunday school and AWANA and other age appropriate bible studies, so that all may serve God to their fullest potential.
  • Helps, supports, and trains teaching volunteers to grow in their walk with God.
  • Plans and promotes ministry opportunities to children and youth.
  • Develops relationships with children and their families.
  • Plans fellowship and ministry events for VOPC families and to reach new families.
  • Delivers Family Worship message to entire VOPC congregation once a month, as well as Sunday sermon messages to children and youth on other Sundays.
  • Seeks ways to serve children and their families in our community.

LEADERSHIP QUALITIES:

  • The Children’s and Youth Pastor is a ministry leadership position at VOPC, under the day-to-day supervision of the VOPC pastor, and SPRC.
  • Candidate is expected to lead by example in their personal conduct and in their spiritual lives.
  • Helps teaching volunteers to grow spiritually and become mature believers through praise, Word, prayer and service.
  • Demonstrates commitment to Christ’s ministry and leads by example through punctuality for all required meetings and services.
  • If a conflict arises, we asked that it be handled in a Biblical way by speaking directly to parties involved and if needed to have conversations with the pastoral staff, VOPC members, and SPRC to resolve any issues.

Compensation:  Commensurate with experience.
Time Commitment: Approximately 40 hours per week (entitled to 3 Sundays paid leave).
Length of Commitment: One year renewable by mutual agreement.

  • Music Ministry Leader is under the direct supervision of the pastor.
  • Candidate attends all the required planning and staff meetings.
  • Communicates song choices, order of songs, and other information with team members in a timely manner to enable adequate time to prepare.
  • Recruits for the praise team among VOPC members, and organizes and cares for existing members, so that all may serve God to their fullest potential.
  • Helps, supports, and trains praise team members to grow in their musical skills.
  • Trains and manages team members in preparation and take-down/storage of required equipment for praise.
  • Coordinates appropriate music selection with Scriptural direction and themes as directed by the pastor
  • Organizes, manages and leads every praise rehearsal, and organizes and manages every Sunday praise for both VOPC services (although not necessarily required to personally lead during every Sunday worship, it is expected that the Music Ministry leader will lead praise for a majority of Sundays, and is always present to organize and manage praise even if not performing personally)
  • Weekly Rehearsals.
    • The candidate is expected to attend rehearsal every week.
    • Rehearsals include musical rehearsal and a time in the Word and prayer. 
  • Sunday Services 8:30am- 1:30pm.
  • Sound check for 1st service begins at 8:30
  • Practice and prayer time begins at 9:00 for 1st service.
  • Sound check, Practice and prayer time begins at 11:45 am for 2nd service

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Extensive knowledge of Christian music in various styles and is driven to lead others into God’s presence through worship.
  • Familiarity and willingness to utilize both contemporary and traditional music
  • Ability to map chord structures and rhythms to create a unified sound among the musicians.
  • Solid understanding of music skills and sound/media technology

Compensation:  Commensurate with experience.
Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week (entitled to 3 Sundays paid leave).
Length of Commitment: One year renewable by mutual agreement.
